Between Memory and Place

These images begin as photographs, most of them taken in Jersey, though the collection is gradually expanding to include places further afield. Rather than presenting a scene exactly as I found it, I use my own photographs as raw material, layering, cutting and blending them to create something new. The finished pieces are often less about documenting a place and more about capturing a feeling, memory or atmosphere.

I find myself drawn to the spaces between reality and recollection, where familiar landscapes become fragmented and transformed. Sometimes the result evokes memories of home and places from my past; at other times it reflects the mood or character of somewhere I have visited. These works are my attempt to create images that feel nostalgic, atmospheric and slightly elusive—less concerned with what a place looks like and more with what it feels like to remember it.
